Food Independence Guild
About
The Food Independence Guild is small but mighty guild at Past Lives focused on building stronger relationships with food, each other, and the land.
We believe food security is something we can build together—not just by creating access to food, but by facilitating opportunities for people to learn practical skills, share resources, and grow and preserve food in order to participate in a more connected local food system.
FIG is in a developmental stage, and right now that looks like monthly community potlucks, occasional classes and workshops, skill-sharing, and adventures beyond the kitchen. What a gift it is that we have gathered around the table to share meals, gleaned fruit from the neighborhoods of Portland, and foraged for wild mushrooms around the base of Mount Hood.
We are building a network of people who can support one another in becoming more resilient, more capable, and less dependent on the increasingly fragile food systems. We’re always interested in collaborating with people, farms, organizations, and community groups who share these values and want to help create a more connected, abundant, and food-secure community.
Whether you have a backyard garden, a favorite sourdough recipe, years of knowledge, or absolutely no idea what you're doing yet, there's a place for you here.
Let’s do this together!
